But from time to time you hear such testimonies, even from children of people who may have meant a lot to others. (The only one I can think of in a hurry is the author of Wonnie the Pooh.) But where children as they get older feel they want to get another say.

And this reminds me of an “esoteric,” spiritual model of explanation I’ve had around me all my adult and half-adult life. Namely, that some are not actually suitable as parents (or spouses for that matter), because of their high level of spiritual development.

I can tell right away that I don’t believe in that much anymore. This may or may affect to some extent. I don’t know exactly how life works. But if you fail in these respects – which of course you do, more or less, no one is perfect – then I don’t think it is mainly in metaphysics that you should seek answers.

Speaking of possible downsides with the notion of spiritual evolution. Some are “behind” and some “ahead”… Have you heard of “Munchausen by proxy”? A psychological ill-finding that involves, for example, a parent, completely or half consciously, making their child sick, in order to get care, or rather the attention, of the environment. It’s very unusual. (Learned the other night, from Dr. Phil, that there is simple “Münchausen” too. Of course. Just that you never hear about it. That is, the same thing, but that the person does not use anyone else to stage their misery.)

“Indigobarn”, “Star Children”, “Crystal Kids”… Something tells me that in some cases there’s a similar process going on. But the other way around, sort of. What would you call it? “Spiritual narcissism by proxy”, perhaps?

While one can of course feel with those parents who, out of worry, sadness, self-preservation, find comfort in this explanation, that their children are odd, challenging, have difficulty fitting in one way or another, because they are simply not “of this world”. (Plus, what do you know, maybe the explanation is correct in some cases as well.)
