Not in a Day (1987)
Do not rest the rose
directly on earth But well at the end of the
Strong, stately root fastening!
What do you demand those words?
That long way traveled
but now reached port

Understand that it is not urgent, but it is also not urgent to understand.
What the stone is to the water, it is the habit of the still brittle tank, but what the water is to the stone, it is also the still brittle thought of the habit tank.
The stillness of the mind that comes with a showdown to your advantage is always deceptive. What can be perceived as goodness is not. It’s a cat’s game with the rat.
Great is to possess real knowledge, but to make the right use of it is greater.
Perhaps we imagine that when someone reacts very violently and condemningly to things that others do, these reactions show that it is completely foreign to act like that. But that’s not always the case. The cool statement is often an indication of the exact opposite.
Prayer is determined to become a part of all our doing, all our thinking. An obstacle to this being possible, so that it can be fully incorporated into the essence of the bee, is the form often given to it. We are happy to present our prayers with a tormented, stifling expression, even though this is not our real experience. It is a disguised humility or fear. The action is an effort that serves no function whatsoever. On the contrary, prayer is then separated from our normal thinking. We then rise from our prayer time, smooth out the features of the face, and reopen our soul’s window to freshness. But even the prayer is so far away, so passed.
Often it is our now sorrowful responsibility only to allow this or that to happen, and it is not quite as often as what we feel bound to do, to be the ones who make it happen. Therein lies a big difference.
About human values: The value experienced to grow with success is the illusory value, the imagined surplus-value, and when success lingers – likewise unreal – the less value.
The individual’s self-perception or self-evaluation rests as “a shimmer” around her — usually unconsciously observing and noting it, a kind of thought reading — and here what is erudged in words is not of any significant importance.
Blaming yourself for what you have done in the past is foolish. Without it, you wouldn’t be who you are today. Choices that were once made – and which one wishes today undone – could not be made again, because one is familiar with the consequences, but well others whose consequences one does not yet know. Alternatives that are perceived to be real today – least inaccurate or whose returns are calculated as well worth the stakes – may be tried to avoid another time in the future.
What do all the situations in which we feel divided or stressed have in common? Not primarily: “Existence puts so many things before me at the same time” – but more: “An inability to choose out of these things what is most important in the moment and devote my full attention and care.”
In this world, it’s just foolish and wise people who find something to laugh about. Yes, and the kids who so strangely combine the two.
He who experiences difficult, pressing relationships can advantageously process these also entirely on his own, for there is no conflict – apart from that which can be observed on the plane of thought – at all. The root is called Ignorance, the tribe is called Fear, Bark and Branch has the name Conception.
Is it open to strive? Doesn’t transparency require collection and immobility? Well, however, you may find yourself in motion and be on your way, but on the more important plane remain in silence. You’re powerful!
The basis of sadness — as well as for all overenthusiasm or fanaticism — is the pettiness. It is the inability to see the “great lines”, to freely glide across the Sea of Destiny, over wave valleys and wave peaks – but well under the clouds – to see how all movements interact and can be followed from the horizon to very close, from near and towards far.
What in the search is completely wrong and pernicious? If what can be said: “That’s wrong and you shouldn’t be concerned about that, that doesn’t lead you to the Goal?” Do we not see that when we condemn something — or help elevate as the only real thing — we put ourselves above the very Life and The Preparation of Life of our fellow walkers? And if, in time, someone abandons what we have banned her for or spoken for, what reason do we have to feel victory or triumph? God led her into it and God led her out of it, because she first needed it but now no longer needs it — for the moment perhaps — all of it is God’s work and games, and who is foolish enough to want to boast of them?
Anyone who is repeatedly asked to confirm their friendly attitude of mind can become feel feel unkind what time suffers.
For the crucifixion of pride, the Chief has given us the paradoxes. He who finds reason to howl over his understanding and knowledge cannot have sufficiently unreservedly tried to force these entrance gates of omnissism. The key is called “emancipation” – from the private and limited and detached – that which is also the noblest form of love. Pride is a one-sided protection of the personal and therefore it is loveless.
The balancing act of self-destruction: To dismantle aspects of oneself, without distancing oneself from them.
Is Eternity finite, so that it has a beginning? Is infinity bordered – so that the thought can have it at the edge of expansion? They are not worthy of the names.
Boundaries are a natural part of our lives and actions. The length of the steps on our walks is not allowed to exceed a certain limit; we naturally interrupt our waking time for the necessary sleep and return when it has served its purpose. Does this also apply to our relationship with other people? No, so often we shy away from setting boundaries, when we really feel the need for seclusion – as well as for the opposite: to overcome boundaries when togetherness is the desired one – and every little child serves us here as a healthy example.
Forcing gold out of lead is no easy thing, of course, but forcing man out of animals is even more difficult if possible. And yet so simple, for the meek, who adheres to the course of life.
The price of fame is vulnerability — the previously so coveted, over time achieved — gift price becomes paying price.
Can you go further than you can stretch, can you run faster than you can? Can you understand more than you can understand?
He who believes himself to be the sole cause of the triumph is then also alone with the defeat. Is that necessarily the case? Yes, you cannot be united with Life — the one upon which all permanent joy rests, truly so, and remain so — at the same time as separating yourself from it. Nothing could be more impossible.
Countless are those who claim to be able to convey the Truth, and for those who seek, the discovery here is something that confuses or amuses, perhaps frightens. Someone is talking about the origins of all religions. Someone despises them all. Some people say that meditation is the way. Some add that, of course, meditation is the Way – the path that leads to loss and destruction. Someone raises man’s ability to think, his analytical talent, to heavenly heights. Some point out that therein lies its limitation: grumbles lead the individual, at best, “up into the clouds”, but so much closer to the Truth she does not come with the help of her head. Someone informs that the cosmic is ostensibly and fundamentally chaotic, that in Chance everything has its origin. Someone talks about the legality of everything, how a head hair is not counted, and that every little sigh is heard. Someone willingly shares his burden, his cross, that everything is darkness — basically — humanity only goes downhill with and destruction is near. Someone happily wanders around, testifying smilingly of the Glory whose raygloria is absorbed by all her senses and of a future with people who are little wonders of prudence and virtue. “But what is truth?” shouts the one who has been searching for a long time and still does. Yes, what do we answer? What can be perceived as true by one, the other is apparently completely uncomprehending. Thoughts that are only tiring for some, become lifelong inspiration to others. Also: B may have what A is looking for, C can inspire and guide B, but it is not certain that A finds in C what he is calling for, for the moment.
When we think mean about someone or something, and want to defend the thoughts that bubble up internally, then it’s as if we sometimes reason: “No, all this talk about positive thinking and ‘karma’ – I have to be in reality at some point too!” But every step that we try to justify with these objections is a step away from reality. Yes, of course it is. The “real” would lie in it, that you expose your actual – real – degree of maturity. But that’s another matter. We are not that real in the moment.
In the very selection of options – what the context and thought provide – lies guidance.
Perhaps we sometimes think: “Loneliness is so difficult, and socializing with others as well.” And yet, over time, we find joy in both seclusion and in community. Has the world become different?
As long as man regards the world as his enemy, he will pay tribute to the aggressive and cheeky protesters, those who strike, occupy houses or otherwise give their powers to acts of terrorism. They all do what she herself would like to do, when they fight against the “authority” or “today’s technocratic society”, demanding out their “right” with acts of power and language of power. Alone they fight against their entire existence and she lives into their fate, as uneatended and sidelined. As long as man sees the world as his adversary, he will not shy away from lying and deceiting his “adversary.” She will defend her actions by saying that the spoils thus conquered are actually hers, whether it is money, time or anything else.
With limited concepts, man tries to capture the unlimited. She makes the multi-layered one-bottomed. Maybe she thinks it will be easier that way? But the complex is the simple. The simple – the only seemingly simple – is the really difficult, because it’s only half the truth.
The Nazis sorted out people who were unpleasant in their eyes. We sort out the Nazis, because they are unpleasant in our eyes, or those who sort out Nazis. But what exactly is the big difference? If we claim that all people have the same value and that they are all worthy of our love and understanding, then of course these great words call for corresponding great deeds.
The greatest thing in our lives is what we have in common with the very smallest in existence. The thought is staggering!
Do not apologize for your curiosity — if it has put you in a pressing situation and you come up with more appropriate thoughts — for, this pronounced regret then only further shows how piquant and charged the subject in question is to you, what a prominent place in your consciousness is given to it: that you find nothing more interesting to think about or converse about. No, go ahead and make your fellow hiker certain of your benevolence in other ways, in case it is feared that you have made her doubt about it.
When with clumsy words and concepts we seek to bring order to our intuitive predilements, these second-quick sensations of happiness, so easily dissolved by efforts, like the summer butterfly in the sudden rain, helpless. Perhaps then we come to the point where we completely deny the importance of thinking. Yet we return to the words and our – growing – understanding. Always like that.
From the muddle of consciousness of memories and the outs of truth, the need – the real – seems to be the tool by which the shattered, the frustrated, are made to fall apart and become the whole thing and the completely understandable.
The right treatment provides good conditions. Therefore, seek it more often than you are looking for good conditions for a proper treatment.
The “judge” often has a desire to have his prejudices met by “the convicted”. Such judgments in advance are a function of the individual’s fear of the world. Seeing his prejudices shattered is painful – and it applies to prejudice in all areas – therefore he seeks to avoid it. Uncertainty is here: Not daring to leave anything “floating”, a compulsion to “put it in the ground”.
“About that, we don’t know anything for sure, it’s just performances, and that’s why I’ll leave it alone.” Statements like this are often met when foreign thoughts are spoken to the context. But such an “exalted” attitude, in the face of the wholly or partly unknown, would be impossible to maintain in all areas. If we tried to understand how we really know nothing with firmness, not in any area – no, not even on the most mundane and supposedly explored – then perhaps we should experience how the ground just kind of disappeared under our feet! But now in the vast majority of people there is a selection, fortunately, albeit not in everyone and always. Many of those who are guests in our mental hospitals, it is probably precisely because they have dissolved these – illusory – basics of existence. Only after being made familiar with the Universal Stillness — the basic condition of all creation and experience — should we possess the necessary qualifications, in order to safely loosen the moorings. Then it has happened too.
When Life seeks me and conscience, my servant, has passed It to meet, then I lock the gate behind him. Soon the faithful can be heard pounding and shouting, “It’s here now, let in!” In my house I listen. Drivers.
Only those who contain misunderstanding can bitterly feel misunderstood. Were it not their plight, they happily gathered opinions and expressions of other points of view.
Service does not tire, but our ever-pocking desire to be somewhere else, to do something else — our ambiguousness — makes us discouraged and unruly. The way out: Giving yourself to your job – and correctly perceiving it – gives peace. It is more to give in to the task of affection than to give up before it and soullessly join in, that which has to do with resignation.
He who is afraid often exhibits the propensity to want to attach himself to the imperfect sides of the surroundings first and foremost. But – she should then be aware that the qualities or shortcomings which she thinks she sees in them may not be there at all – her gaze is not open-sighted, but it seeks and wishes to have its assumptions confirmed – and if they would really be there, then there are a thousand good reasons for forgiving of them. Yes, if nothing else, so that the surroundings may be forgiving of her error-finding zeal. The eye sees what the eye wants to see, a lot goes by.
Like the parts of Reality we are, there are things we cannot imagine and not because it is “difficult” or even “very difficult”, but because it is unreal and therefore impossible.
When football has been stopped on the first-team goal line and the referee hesitates for a moment, then all the B-team supporters have seen that it was inside, while all the first-team supporters can attest that the ball never came any further. No matter who is wrong, not all of these liars or deliberately dishonest. Many are simply unreal.
How happy am I sometimes that forgetfulness paralyzes my tongue, makes me confused, seducing, and ineligible in the eyes of others.
Faced with the idea that adversity would have its deepest source flow in our own wretched state, we defend ourselves. But what relief do the illusions that we so stubbornly defend offer? Why does the cross rub less with them in mind? Wouldn’t it be, for an angel, a desirable opportunity to lift the yoke of guilt off everyone’s shoulders?
To make a fellow human being aware that something that he is in the process of creating or has already completed — and is likely to accomplish again — can be done in a more appropriate way, it is probably sometimes to go the way of Love. But anyone who is very diligent in noting such imperfections may reveal that the complaint-correcting for her has become a kind of end in itself. It no longer pains her to have to point out shortcomings in the behavior of others, but these occasions are even desired. Basically, she overvalues his own importance, while underestimating the importance of his fellow men.
We think of the completed mental state, where no particular pleasure is found in flattery and personal successes, gray and inconsolable, it may seem to us. But the wise laugh so well! Apparently they draw their joy from another source, which we will get to know over time!
Remembering sometimes: “My ways are not your ways, and about your dreams I know almost nothing.”
That a reluctance to reconciliation would make change impossible is a misconception. Major changes occur: the poisoning and destruction of the body.
The unfinished bus passenger: A certain amount of discomfort he experiences, when the vacant chair on the side is occupied: “If only I had been allowed to sit by myself. Why would she necessarily sit here?” A certain amount of discomfort he experiences, when the chair next door becomes vacant again and the person goes somewhere else – which he meant to wish for: “Why didn’t she want to stay? Why doesn’t everyone sit next to me?”
Forgiveness will not always be and will remain only an expression of our benevolence. There is a mathematically fortified foundation to discover — God’s own vantage point — and the individual earthman’s judgment is evolving.
The urgency of others does not mean that time is short.
“Vision” is an intense experience of being surrounded by the world, rather than having it just in front of you. Perhaps we will experience a little of it in our brightest moments. If we try to gain it, it’s with your one gone, like a fleeing wind. But: Doesn’t the explorer want to be praised for Africa being Africa, or because the zebra is just as striped as it has always been?
When we observe ourselves, we may find that we are happy to bind others to us, even though we do not want to be bound ourselves. As our desire for independence has grown strong enough, it will be to give – real – freedom, our path to experiencing a greater degree of freedom in our relationships.
For the luster of power, “greatness” is a distance – to one or many – while the “greatness” of the unassuming is understood to be a state.
To assume one’s responsibilities is to know one’s head held high, to stand before the Greatest Evaluator, not on the “last day” only, but every day, in every moment, and in every place. To strive is an attitude of consciousness and not certain actions or placements.
We cannot imagine a World Room that has walls, because it does not – unlike us – have no basis in reality, but the World Space that lacks walls cannot be captured either, because it does not fit in our thought.
The humor that most people seem to value the most is the one that meets them as a surplus. A joke is an invitation to the surroundings, to see the comic or paradoxical in a situation, an offer that – at best – is given with full freedom to either decline or join. But where the sense of the individual does not exist as an excess, there is also no freedom for the surroundings. They feel that their approval is something vital for the other. He has kind of taken off his – inadequate – life energy, and now waits anxiously and intrusively for their response. They are not given any time to think or rest, but just feel that they want to put an end to the situation.
By grace, some words may become carriers of reality.
We desire power. Look at the mannequins in the windows of the shops, which are steeped and designed to sell, how their postures and features all bear the hallmarks of power! The male dolls are arrogant and powerful, they have glances that make us fold and the female exhibits other, in their fields, at least as effective weapons.
It is a mistake to think that we are maturing as quickly as we get used to and become blind to what is meant to inspire us to maturity. Tragically, it may seem that we are only so superficially able to take part in what are expressions of stages of maturity in the future of our own. We surround ourselves with many phrases and statements by the wise of the world. A few times we have read them and then think that we have made them our property. We have kind of taken all the nutrition they offer, risen above them and no longer hear them, perhaps heeding them for nothing. Use them when we speak, but then do not understand the depth of what we are saying. So much greater will be our joy when we return – and we always do – when we understand that our ears were closed before we had heard all that was to be communicated to us! It has been there, well known in color and shape, but without a real deeper meaning. And how could it have been different?
The search for and sometimes demanding perfection of those you meet, moral impeccability and consistency, is basically an expression of one’s longing for God, one’s longing for life, yes, one’s homesickness. Like the children who cannot possibly come to terms with the divided world, where warring parties – inside and outside the individual – try to coordinate, but fail. She — and perhaps only she — whose search is completed or almost, allows those she meets to be who they wish to be and demands nothing beyond what they are capable of. To such people, warming and radiating, many turn frozen and winter-bleached hikers. They rarely seek and are rarely, on valid grounds, disappointed.
Many of the notions that we never question or even think about that they are mere notions will, over time, turn out to be partly or completely wrong. New bails often find it difficult to gain approval and not because they are less likely, fundamentally, than they are already established, but because they are too unaccustomed to the mind. We vigorously resist the new, what challenges the long-accepted. Ideas that have the future ahead of them, we strike from today and not because they collide with reality itself, but because they collide with the notions we have made of what is real. When we are sincere with ourselves, we must admit that there is much that we face. The authorities of society on which we rely are also questionable here. It concerns things from the smallest and to the most complex. For some of these questions, we construct strange theories, which rightly seem far-fetched, but which, however, – albeit no more than helpfully – can be reconciled with our ingrained notions.
Children can be so rudely cruel to animals and to each other, but to blame it on the impact of parents and their surroundings is to simplify the context considerably – or make it difficult, because the limited gaze claims to be the complete and therefore it gets lost.
An imbalance in soul life causes a greater or lesser degree of “blindness”, because the imbalance makes us unable to see things as they are. Their true or deepest nature remains hidden.
That we should welcome the grief – as the wise have said – does not mean that you would do well to seek it out. No, but in situations where grief meets you, embrace it like a dear friend. There is no more sadness.
Using one’s time and power to try to convert those who do not desire repentance is doubly loveless. On the one hand, you are violent friends who do not want such a visit (in time you leave, perhaps ashamedly, try to close the gate after you that you have previously kicked in) and partly you allow those who really hunger to remain unsaturated. This mismanagement with resources is a form of debauchery or arrogance, comparable to the coldness of the richer nations towards the poorer. It allows them to starve, while their own food stocks rot away or are only intended to be a guarantee against any future emergency years in their own country.
Just as the unhappiness or sadness is there, even though our circumstances seem to be so “happy,” the real happiness is there – when it is there – despite all the “unfortunate” circumstances.
The question is often: “How much do you earn?” and the answer should then be more accurate in time – or better still in quality – and not in money, when the question literally reads: “How much are you servant?”
In moments of resignation and despair, we ourselves are unfortunately unaware of “it”, and when we measure these moods in others, we are often aware of “it”, perhaps we are annoyed: That there are people for whom our lives would be as favors.
The contradictory is perceived as repugnant only by his, albeit unwitting, like. All the children of this world, destined – and over time also disarmed, quite naturally – for something greater.
That night’s blind clarity of fog shrouds. Until dawn comes, the light awakens, but the vision lingers.
It would not occur to us to ask that the laws that ruled the dreams of the night also apply to the everyday life to which we woke up — albeit they had been experienced as never so real or obvious while we were still sleeping — but in many ways we are still like sleepwalkers, who stagger around in the break between dream and reality and despair that reality does not want to submit to the dream.
With love, we also set boundaries. Losing yourself in “the smaller”, with the result of losing your grip on “the greater”, often has unwanted consequences. Often we add more discomfort and division to the environment than we add to it of pleasant experiences. These groundings can be avoided if we try to look after the good of the whole. What may well lie in special concern for the “insignificant” and often do.
Crying and despair at being no more than human follows a valiant attempt.
It is not only the violent or outright intrusive that we feel the need to defend ourselves against. No, even the one who is firmly entrenched we can perceive as threatening, although no aggressiveness can be traced in her expression and she does not offend or demand, except for her own legitimateness.
To relive and now live out painful childhood memories is not to have come to understand the whole course of pain or to have found the ultimate cause of the adult problem. There are analysis systems on several levels. The smaller systems become even more valuable when the individual becomes aware of the larger systems, where the smaller ones are included as parts and therefore of course have their limitations.
The great obstacle to man being fulfilled by real understanding is that he already considers himself to possess it, large parts of the condition or conditions that should reward him as soon as possible. The space in her being, which will in time be per flown through by true, divine insight, is now filled with conceit and other debris. Isn’t that crystal clear?
Never is the Coast so in love with us, as when the performances, our sails, wear badly in the storm!
Some people wear their clothes, as do their gestures, knowledge and specialties. Other people — yes, the sad one in each — are all of them, they live their lives through them, decay and die with them.
Not infrequently, we allow one aspect of reality to swell out, while other parts are then demoted to be a kind of peripheral cripple or completely denied. But – there is also a form of experience where all the sensational and allegedly common, but then own its proper proportions. Freshness is its companion.
When we attack people for their confidence in life and in the perfection of everything in the moment, we imagine how they seek their foundation in something that is outside of reality. But that’s a misconception. These are the ones who live on the inside of reality, while it is we who dwell in the shadows. And it is not the dark parts of reality that are experienced here, but it is the chilly half-day we wrap around ourselves in the absence of reality.
Being challenged and beaten is a suffering, but to then also receive the stronger’s apology can make the burden of suffering even greater. A victory, after all, is to have been found worthy of the challenge of the stronger.
As in the traditional family, it is man and his ministry that give the family its external identity — such expressions that a stranger becomes acquainted with at the earliest: the social reputation, the built-up dwelling, for example — it is also the male qualities of Deity that are first and for a long time the only ones to which the Son of God can refer. In time, the wanderer and the Son of God come so close that they begin to discern even things that arise from the woman’s ministry. Already from a distance they can find a more nurturing and acting force in silence, and when they eventually become acquainted with the collective manifestation of the family – and see how these different forces interact and complement each other – it is quite natural for them to think of the family as man and woman, woman and man. When we find, in prayers and conversations, that we call with fondness the All-Encompassing As if it were the One of the Male Beauty, it is blamed not only on the habit — well rooted in the dark when the woman was considered to lack soul and other spiritual qualifications — but also our immaturity. Accompanied by a burning longing, everyone will eventually come to understand that Deity houses both all the female qualities, as well as all the male qualities. The idea of Deity as the mighty Creator, the One who reigns over life and death, then turns out to have even deeper layers: The Deity as the Steward, the Carer, all the caretakers of small everyday needs. Deity is not only the One who steps over our heads, enormous and with the great events before his eyes, but also the one that we ate in all “small” and “trivial”, to the right of, left, under, in between and inside us.
He who feels compelled to enlighten the surroundings of his imperfection may perceive himself so that he may fear they have found reason to believe otherwise.
Thoughts are so easily told. It is wise, therefore, to first taste the veracity of the words and the love content of the act itself. Two dangers lurk: first, that you say such things, whether it is both true and true, that no one wants to hear, let alone asked you to say; What you say is unfounded in what is true and correct, regardless of someone who asked another council. Double the pain of both unwanted and untrue. To be dazzled by your own wisdom is highly unwise. Easily, one exaggerates one’s importance – as well as one’s actual capacity – and then thinks you have both the right and the obligation to inform others, even about things that one really has no concept of. The truth is watching closely here.
Did the animal ask to be trained? Did the plant want a pot from us? No, that is why we have only obligations, no rights.
The development in which the viewfinder is involved can be described from several angles as an emancipation. She will dissolve her ties to the world, become more bold and airy in mind, creative and mobile. Surely she will also reach and realize the state of these longings. But from another point of view, she should also make herself dependent, dependent on and extremely sensitive to and faithful to the larger context of which she is a part. Yes, in a way, her experience of freedom can be described as that she desires and sees herself to be inextricably dependent on everything and all those who surround her (and perhaps on more life plans than she might be aware of in the moment). Faced with this all-encompassing and all-pervasive, she will develop a trembling sensibility.
Who seeks the fame and the reverence of the surroundings, their admiration? Answer: Whoever needs it, and who doesn’t need it? When someone achieves fame — and it always does so, over time — we often see how pride grows. It may take the expression that suddenly the individual is no longer looking for the surroundings. Because they’re looking for her. Perhaps she now openly shows them her contempt, criticizes and dictates demandingly. On these haughty statements it follows that she “falls”, sooner or later, and to mean to be able to spare the advances and tributes of the surroundings is not the same as actually being able to. When the bolts on the front door are silenced – as you have said you wish – you may still go up and open it, to see if at least a handful of admirers are left, at least some who could tune up a song of praise.
Animal is to take off others without qualms to satisfy one’s own needs and the true human is something of the reverse. But the animal takes what it desires and is content with it; The suffering of others is not in itself sought after.
The truly cruel people are not those who do not desire love, but they are the ones who want but are unable to, those who have hungered but have not been fed.
What awakens a Jew persecutor H is not an exaggeration of what makes the animal an animal, but the dawning human in conflicted union with the former. There are several examples of the feared human tormentor in other contexts, in other areas, being deeply compassionate. It may seem strange and sick – as if only a mockery – but in animals he or she often harbors a tenderness that far surpasses the general human.
We all want to be seen – well, except for the thief then, maybe – and seen for our own sake. We desire from others and of each other, that which is more than two whites of the eye directed at us, and a mouth that bares the teeth. We do not desire the self-fulfilling gaze, the one who turns against us only to make room for our own statements when we have fallen silent, but also not the anxious gaze that looks at us just so that we do not get tired of the interaction and go elsewhere.
“Me and my soul” becomes over time, as the experience has matured, more like “me and my body”.
The big context is wordless and in relation to it, no letter combination is more accurate or better than any other. The degree of suitability must always be seen in relation to the defined context or conceptual system in which the word is to be included, the interrelationship of concepts.
Placing the Master in the middle of the room is not a good thing to put Him at the center. To reproduce the Master’s words is not necessarily the one to reproduce His thoughts.
When we hear from others or say ourselves that what we experience happens to us so, because these are things that we ourselves have been the originator of, then there is a misunderstanding that often arises. It is not so much a question of “right” or “wrong” words, but it has more to do with the understanding itself. This, which is often likened to the sowing and harvest of the arable man, is not an “external”, from us decoupled, but very much and in every respect an “inner” event. It is consciousness with its habit tanks and patterns of action, which is similar to the arable land from which the harvest rises. Our thought life is like a garden and in it the fruits ripen and reap, the bitter as well as the sweet and tasty. Everyday life can then be better likened to a market square, with cheerful and lush murmurs, and people seeking each other, we offer abundance and we wish to satisfy our hunger. The thought is freed here from all sterile desolation, a misunderstanding, for we travel through history and always find the insightful with smiling faces.
It is painfully affected that tempts the patience of others, but in the face of not being touched at all, it seems preferable.
Only the simple mind, find simple people to look at. The bigots see in the world – through the murky lens of roughness – like to despise.
The misconduct to play on other people’s irritable and weak strings, to hear the noise scratching on the wallpaper. What a poor pleasure!
Anyone who wants to understand “a flower” finds them in the meadow. Anyone who wants to understand “a bear” seeks him in his den. But what does he do who wants to understand “a human being”? She’s traveling under her skin.
Anyone who has read a book may believe that he has understood its message, but has not. Anyone who still has the book unread may think that he is unsympathetic, but may in fact be the understanding one.
A growing sincerity puts the unfinished sides of consciousness in the open, and it is not always so easy to look at these discoveries with accepting and sober eyes. The so far repressed and stubbornly overlooked meets the light and swells to unreasonable proportions. The discoverer’s confessions to the surrounding wounds or scares may arouse unease for (or admiration in spite of) his one-sidedness.
The contemptuous statements that the individual makes about the specialities of others and the specialities of others are often an excellent guide to his own personality.
In a stressful relationship, we are often inclined to see our own actions as being only a reaction to what the other is doing, to what the other is. We see that our own behavior leaves much to be desired, but by placing the ultimate cause of all the unpleasantness of the other, we can legitimize our rudeness, irritation, etc.
With a greater knowledge comes a greater responsibility, but not one of others imposed and regulated, but a self-perceived and, to a greater or lesser degree, complied with such.
Speculation about what may or may not happen is the future of which we have not yet received any promise – and when we consider what has already happened, we are dealing with an area of existence that we have not the slightest opportunity to change: we cannot add anything already, Nor free from anything. The only thing that can be added to the past, beyond what has already happened, is what is happening at the moment. If we dwell in the world of the past, in the meantime we risk neglecting the electoral situations and opportunities offered to us in the “present”, and whose consequences will be the happiest if given our full attention. Perhaps these actions of the present, carried out when we with some of our attention hang on to the past, will become things that we look back on in the future with sadness and regret – while in the meantime we pass a few more wakefulness-demanding moments with half-closed eyes…
All that will be joy in the long run, which you rejoiced in the moment, but then forgot or lost. It rests in what is, and this living space has no treacherous holes or cracks, for it has no walls on which they could appear.
He is the Doctor of the Wounded (because He is the Healing). He is the wise Signpost, because He is the Goal (as well as the Way, the Ways). He is the Master of the seeker, the first and the last, because He is the Light in all those whose minds have been enlightened. He is the shipwrecked Sailmaker, because He is the Sea, the Storm, and the Coast, in addition to all the Port of Endeavors and Rest. Even he who seeks out the unity finds in him what is sought: the one-separateness. He is all about what knowledge can be possessed. Wordlessness is reserved for His being, just as all said and written is dedicated to Him.
