New-age jargon

New-age jargon

2016-01-06 SH

The language of the New Age is easy to make fun of. Online there are at least a couple of different "generators" that produce new-age-like statements only pressing a button:
"New Age Bullshit Generator"
"Random Deepak Chopra Quote Generator"
This connects to an interesting, and possibly more serious, aspect of the language within the new spirituality. What in George Orwell was called "newspeak", and in sect research sometimes "cultese", i.e. how widely accepted (although often vague and ambiguous) words such as "love" are given a special or deviant meaning.
